Children's Hospital of New Orleans, a leader in pediatric care throughout the southeast region, is currently seeking a dynamic Registered Polysomnographic Tech (Sleep Tec).  The Mission of making care available to all children has allowed Children's to grow as an organization.


Shift: 5:00 pm to 5:30 am or 5:30 pm to 6:00 am


REQUIRED:

* Associate or Bachelor's degree in related.


* One year clinical experience in sleep medicine and/or respiratory procedures.


* Licensed Polysomnography Technologist by the LSBME (Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners).


* Registered Polysomnographic Techonolgist (RPSGT) by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT-SDS) with a current license by LSBME and credentialed by NBRC with a SDS or ABSM Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)


* Polysomnography Technologist works under the direct supervision of the Sleep Lab Manager and of the Medical Director.


* The Polysomnography Technologist is responsible for preparing the lab and performing sleep studies while remaining compliant to department policy and guideline standards implemented.  This includes but is not limited to: Electoencephalograms, Electrooculogram, Electromyogram, Respiratory Effort, Micorphones, Postion, Airflow, Oximetry, End Tidal, PAP Device Flow, Artifical Airways, and practices international 10/20 measuring system.


* Idendifies patient according to policy.  Provides a clear and precise explantation of procedure to the patient and/or responsible person present.


* Proper documentations are made every 30 minutes during study.  During titrations note every time pressure is increased or decreased.  Recognizes, documents and eliminate artifacts and/or take proper measures to monitor suspected artifacts.


* Obtain at least 10 CEUs directly related to sleep yearly.  Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educations programs, in-services, meeting and publications.  Keeps current with new equipment and software implemented by the department and/or hospital.


* Maintains and cleans equipment immediately after use (basic infection control), ensures equipment is in proper working order.  Applies troubleshooting methods, repairs and/or replaces instrument parts as needed with immediate notification to the mannager.  Communicates with technical support during troubleshooting of equipment and/or computer.  Demonstrates appropriate use of universal precautions when delivering patient care and performs appropriate isolation techniques for patient requiring isolation.  Lifts, moves or transfers patient utilizing proper body mechanics to prevent self-injury or injur to others.  Utilized side rails on stretchers and secures any patients requiring a wheelchair.


* Utilizes appropriate inter-departmenal and intra-departmental communication skills to facilitate flow and completion of patient demands.  Communicates in a positive, courteous and tactful manner in work related situations.  Listens in a calm, non-defensive manner and discusses issues objectively.  Identifies and communicates issues with management.  Actively participates in identifiable methods of resolutions.  Performs other duties as assigned or requested.  Works independently in the lab when performing procedures.
